History Çolakoğlu’s involvement in the iron and steel business began with the steel trade business that our founder Mehmet Rüştü Çolakoğlu started in Karaköy, Istanbul, in 1945. The first Çolakoğlu rolling mill comissioned in Sütlüce, Istanbul, in 1960. The first meltshop went into production in Dilovası in 1969 to supply billets to the domestic market. The company now called Çolakoğlu Metalurji strengthened its sectoral leadership when it started wirerod production in 1985. In 1990, Çolakoğlu added reinforcing bars to its production line. Çolakoğlu Metalurji proved its determination in its efforts to bring state-of-the-art technologies to Turkey by investing in a new meltshop and rolling mill for flat products in 2007. At the time the meltshop was commissioned, it had the world’s largest electric arc furnace. Çolakoğlu Metalurji also made the first hot-rolled strip investment of the private sector in Turkey. The company maintains its position as a pioneer in this industry. Flat Products Production Facility Çolakoğlu Metallurgy made the first hot-rolled strip investment of the private sector in Turkey which came to reality in 2010. Also, It has headed for higher value-added segments such as tube & pipes, automotive & wheels, agricultural tools, machinery and structural steel industry. Especially in the Automotive & wheels sector the firm proved itself so far by the Homologation proccess. Çolakoğlu’s facility is able to produce a wide range of materials in thicknesses of 1.2-25.4 mm and widths of 800-1,650 mm. As a pioneer in the steel industry, company has been paying attention to continuous innovation. With State-of-art Control systems and investments on integrated processing models company improves mechanical and chemical specifications of the products. Also, Physical specifications such as width, thickness, product smoothness and surface texture are controlled in precise tolerances . Products are able to produce with low tolerances according their standards. Hereby Colakoglu metalürji targets procruing products with higher quality standards. Meltshop Çolakoğlu Metalurji ranks among the world’s most advanced crude steel production facilities due to its meltshop. The facilities include one of the largest electric arc furnaces in the world. The company’s ladle furnaces are equipped with magnetic stirrers, argon gas stirrers and calcium injection systems that ensure the homogeneity and high quality of steel. In addition, a twin tank vacuum degasser also improves steel quality especially in flat product manufacturing. Rolling Mills Thanks to its experience in international markets, Çolakoğlu Metalurji manufactures quality deformed and plain bars in the 8.0 to 40.0 mm range in its rebar rolling mills . The company which is currently investing in flat products will start hot strip production in 2010. The facility will manufacture hot-rolled strips for a wide range of sectors including plumbing pipes, machinery, construction, shipbuilding and automotive industries. Çolakoğlu Metalurji’s commitment to quality is absolute.
